Of Counsel

Denise Chandler serves as Of Counsel with The DeVougas Law Group. Ms. Chandler provides advice, legal research, document review, and drafts legal correspondence in matters regarding commercial real estate, transactional business law and business litigation.

Before making the transition to private practice, Ms. Chandler handled compliance matters relating to a consent decree between the Department of Justice and the City of New Orleans.

In 2010, the City of New Orleans was subject to a Department of Justice investigation into unconstitutional police practices. As a result, the City of New Orleans entered into a consent decree. Ms. Chandler was charged with managing compliance with the requirements of the consent decree, which consisted of monitoring daily operations of police functions relating to Gender-Bias, Community Policing and Engagement, Bias-Free Policing, Transparency and Oversight, and Performance Evaluations and Promotions. Subsequently, Ms. Chandler held a direct role in obtaining compliance with many police practices through implementing reforms.

In many federal oversight reports, the reforms Ms. Chandler spearheaded were praised and implemented by various police departments.
